Our Grace Anchors

None of this happens without the grace of Jesus. Through fervent prayer, devotion, and humility, while depending solely on the help and resurrection power of Jesus, we will seek to lead people to the following truths:

He is the most important person in the room.

Hebrews 1:1-4; John 1:1-5; John 3:30; Colossians 1:15-20; Isaiah 9:6-7; Philippians 2:9-11; Revelation 5: 11-14

Leading people to encounter Jesus Christ. Our sole aim is to introduce and disciple people to the life, death, resurrection, ascension, and eventual return of Jesus Christ, our eternal King. Every environment and opportunity at PV will place Jesus at the center. He is the beginning, middle and end of every story at PV. As leaders, pastors and servants of Jesus, we get low and out of the way so that Jesus can be seen. This is not about us. We encourage and teach a life of worshiping Jesus in every moment and every room. We teach and model a lifestyle of stewardship in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. All that I am (time, talent, & treasure), everything I have belongs to Him. I am His and will follow His voice. We will call people to lay down their idols, confess their sinfulness in repentance and surrender their lives to Jesus. We will proclaim Jesus as the ruling and reigning King no matter the cultural or political pressure from the world. We will create Jesus centered worship and learning environments that welcome skeptics, seekers, & believers with their questions, doubts and struggles.

He is Truth and His Word gives life.

John 1:1; Hebrews 4:12-13; 2 Timothy 3:14-16; Matthew 5:17-19; John 5:37-40; Hebrews 6: 18-20; 2 Peter 1:16-21; Ephesians 1:13; Colossians 1:5; Luke 24:25-27, 32; 2 Timothy 2:15

Leading people into daily conversation and learning with Jesus. We will teach people to spend time with Jesus through Bible study and prayer. We will model and teach corporate and private prayer that is bold, authentic, life-giving and expectant. We will present the Word of God as the only perfect source of truth, without error and God-breathed in both the Old and New Testaments. From the individual, to one-on-one, to small groups, to large groups, we strive to allow God's Word to speak as the ultimate authority. We seek to help people understand the complete redemptive story told throughout all of Scripture. It is one story about one Savior and King. We equip our leaders, volunteers, pastors and disciple-makers to handle God's Word rightly.

His Gospel is all we need for this life and the next.

Genesis 3:15; Romans 3:21-26; 1 Corinthians 1:22-24; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Ephesians 1:3-10; Galatians 1:6-9; Acts 4: 11-12; Isaiah 53:4-6; Romans 8:1-4; Hebrews 9:26, 10:10,14

Leading people to pursue daily sanctification and Gospel living. We teach and model that the Gospel (Christ's finished work) is more than just a one-time event to bring salvation, but is the source of our life in Christ. We encourage and teach people to daily confess their sins and choose to walk in grace rather than their own efforts. We exhort people to choose to walk in the fullness of life that He offers, reminding them that we are fueled by the Gospel and His Holy Spirit, and directed through the application of His Word. We encourage and participate in the ordinances of Communion & Baptism, which serve as visible reflections and signs of the Gospel at work in the church. We teach and model the truth that the Gospel transforms both our relationship with God and our relationship with others. We strive for true Biblical community, embodying the humility Jesus demonstrates in relationships. We teach and model a Gospel perspective as it relates to suffering in this world. We will equip people with Gospel tools for living outside of the church walls (Monday through Saturday): jobs, marriage, parenting, finances, politics - all framed with and directed by our understanding of the Gospel. Just as we remember historical events of significance, Jesus’ magnificent Gospel will be celebrated in eternity future. Therefore, we will teach and model a personal and corporate celebration of the work of Christ. Because our future joy in our eternal home depends on the finished work of Jesus, we will exhort our church to daily depend on His finished work and to pursue joy in Christ-like living.

He’s coming back.

Revelation 22:6-7, 12, 20; Matthew 24:29-31; 25:31-34; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7–10; Hebrews 9:28; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 John 2:28; 3:2; Titus 2:13; 1 Peter 1:7,13; 4:13; James 5:7-8; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10; Romans 1:11; 2 Timothy 4:1-8

Leading people to tell others about Jesus. Serving. We encourage followers of Jesus to discover their Spiritual Gifts and to use them for the edification of the Body of Christ. We will teach and model as those who are here on mission. It's the reason we haven't gone home yet. Our worship service is the starting place for living sent to our families, friends, neighborhoods, workplaces, and the rest of the world. The degree to which we focus on the "uttermost parts of the earth" will affect the health of our own "Jerusalem and Judea." Therefore, we will seek to strategically reach the world (beyond Winona and the region) with the Gospel. We will call, teach, and equip people to share their love for Jesus and to show His love for others through serving… with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter) We will model and teach "loving your enemies" with the hope that they might come to know Jesus. We will provide missions and outreach opportunities that stretch us spiritually and push us out of the comfort zone of PV. We will teach and model a church that says "yes" to the more difficult tasks of the Great Commission. (The poor, the unreached, creative access countries) We will teach people that (as Christ followers), they represent the presence of Jesus whenever they walk into a room. We will pray for and encourage people to share and show the love of Jesus so that our city and region experience the impact of the work of Jesus. They will know us by our love and fruit.
