2022-23 Prayer Focus

THE ELDERS OF PV ASKED THE LORD FOR 3 KEY AREAS OF PRAYER FOR 2022 & 2023. JESUS HAS ANSWERED. WILL YOU FAITHFULLY PRAY WITH US OVER THE NEXT TWELVE MONTHS? AS OUR LORD WAS IN THE TOMB FOR 3 DAYS, WE ARE BRINGING THESE 3 AREAS BEFORE HIM. LET'S PRAY FOR HIS RESURRECTION POWER TO BRING GROWTH AND FRUIT. WE WILL PRAY FROM RESURRECTION SUNDAY TO RESURRECTION SUNDAY (EASTER TO EASTER). WE KNOW THAT NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH JESUS.

PURSUE THE HUMILITY OF JESUS, BOTH AS INDIVIDUALS AND AS A CHURCH.

“1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:1-8

CONFESS OUR OWN DESIRE FOR RECOGNITION AND ASK THAT JESUS BE EXALTED.

He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30

TURN FROM WORLDLY WISDOM AND POWER TO HUMBLY FOLLOW THE WAY OF THE CROSS.

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23

RECOGNIZE OUR COMPLETE DEPENDENCE ON JESUS AND HIS POWER.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

OBEY THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL OF OUR BEING AND ALL THAT WE HAVE.

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. Matthew 22:36-38

LIVE BY THE POWER OF THE CRUCIFIED AND RESURRECTED CHRIST AND HIS SACRIFICIAL LOVE FOR US.

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

BELIEVE THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH OF GOD’S WORD AND LIVE IT BY KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS.  IN SO DOING, WE REVEAL THE LOVE OF GOD IN OUR HEARTS.

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” John 14:21

MARVEL IN WONDER AT THE LOVE THE LORD HAS FOR US.

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16

STRIVE TO BE THOSE WHO REPAIR, BUILD UP, AND BRING TOGETHER THROUGH THE LOVE OF JESUS.

6 “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed[a] go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? 9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, 10 if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. 12 And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. Isaiah 58:6-7, 9-10,12

SEE OUR FELLOW GOD-IMAGE BEARERS THE WAY JESUS SEES THEM.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 34

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

HEED THE SECOND GREATEST COMMANDMENT: TO LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS AS WE LOVE OURSELVES.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:39-40

OBEY JESUS’ COMMAND TO SHOW MERCY TO OUR NEIGHBORS.

25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.” Luke 10:25-37

LOVE OUR ENEMIES AND PRAY FOR THE PEACE THAT JESUS OFFERS US THROUGH THE GOSPEL.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,[a] what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:43-49

GROW IN OUR LOVE FOR THE BODY OF CHRIST AND THE WORLD.

1 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. 4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Hebrews 13:1-4
